A Pro-life Group was formally established in the parish in December 2010 and currently has twelve active members led by parish priest Father Towey. The main aim of the group is to pray for a return to a pro-life society and for the conversion and healing of everyone affected by abortion and euthanasia. We focus on the Rosary, Benediction and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Another important aim of the group is to educate ourselves, fellow parishioners and our local community on pro-life issues. To that end we have organised Prayer Vigils in the Oratory and a Prayer Service of Light in the church, all of which have been well attended by parishioners. In May 2011 we organised our first Pro-life Chain at the roadside in Uddingston. This latter event was a “silent witness for life” and was attended by 70 people of all ages, carrying placards displaying a pro-life message and helpline number. An estimated 2000 vehicles passed by during our 2 hour presence. Our plans for the future include further spreading of the pro-life message through film viewing, guest speakers and establishing the Pro-life Chain as an annual event

The group meets on Tuesday evening, twice per month, to pray for the work of the charity and to discuss how we as a parish can provide best support. The group is also active in helping to coordinate fund raising efforts within the parish.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)

R.C.I.A. was introduced into the parish in September 1991 and for the past 20 years has instructed over 40 adults interested in knowing more about the Catholic Faith and has given them the experience of the Catholic way of life. The Parish Team consists of four parishioners led by parish priest Father Towey. Those who prepare to be received into the Catholic Church through R.C.I.A. come from many walks of life and their ages range from “teens” to “seniors”. Meetings for prospective candidates take place in the church every Tuesday at 7.30pm from September until Easter. When candidates are ready to make a commitment to the Catholic Faith they are received into the Church community during the Easter Vigil celebrations.
